Core Doctrine

Core Doctrine

Understanding Islam requires going to its primary sources: the Quran (believed to be the literal word of Allah), the Hadith (sayings and actions of Muhammad), and Sharia (Islamic law).

1. The Quran

The Quran is considered eternal and unchangeable. Key concepts include:

  • Abrogation (Naskh) – Later verses supersede earlier ones (Quran 2:106)
  • Jihad – Struggle in the way of Allah, including combat against non-believers (Quran 9:5, 9:29, 8:39)
  • Treatment of Non-Muslims – Dhimmi status, jizya tax, and commands to fight until Islam is supreme

2. Key Verses

Quran 9:29 — “Fight those who do not believe in Allah…”

Quran 4:34 — Men are in charge of women… strike them.

Quran 5:51 — Do not take Jews and Christians as allies.

Quran 98:6 — Non-believers are the worst of creatures.

3. Hadith & Sunnah

Muhammad’s example is mandatory for Muslims (Quran 33:21). Major collections:

  • Sahih Bukhari & Sahih Muslim (most authoritative)
  • Commands regarding apostasy, blasphemy, warfare, and treatment of captives

4. Sharia Law

Islamic legal system derived from Quran and Hadith. Includes hudud punishments (amputation, stoning, execution for apostasy, etc.).

5. Major Doctrines

  • Apostasy (death penalty in classical Sharia)
  • Blasphemy laws
  • Polygamy and temporary marriage (mut’ah)
  • Supremacy of Islam over all other religions

These are not fringe interpretations.
They are mainstream, classical Islamic doctrine.
