Significant majorities in many Muslim-majority countries want Sharia as the official law of the land. Support is lower in Central Asia and parts of Europe.
Apostasy & Blasphemy
At least 22 countries have apostasy laws. In several (including Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, etc.), the punishment is death. Blasphemy laws exist in approximately 40% of countries worldwide, with heavy enforcement in many Muslim-majority nations.
Terrorism & Violence
Since 2001, thousands of Islamist terrorist attacks have occurred globally. Europe has seen major incidents (Paris, Manchester, Berlin, etc.). In the U.S., attacks such as Pulse Nightclub, San Bernardino, Boston Marathon, and Fort Hood were carried out by individuals motivated by Islamic ideology.
Women & Honor Killings
Honor-based violence remains a documented issue in some Muslim communities. Studies show patterns of FGM, forced marriage, and honor killings disproportionately linked to certain cultural/religious interpretations.
Integration Challenges in the West
Multiple European countries report issues with parallel societies, grooming gangs (UK), no-go zones debates, rising antisemitism, and polls showing significant minorities holding views incompatible with Western values (e.g., support for Sharia, rejection of free speech on Islam, etc.).
These statistics reflect patterns, not every individual.
However, ignoring doctrinal roots and demographic trends has real consequences for security, social cohesion, and civil liberties.
